Scuba Diving Mexico: Cozumel

Cozumel is the top place in Mexico for scuba diving and it is located only 12 miles from the Yucatan Peninsula! Cozumel is mostly known for the beautiful reefs and distinct fish. Colorful reefs that spread for miles along the coastline of Cozumel are a great spot for scuba divers. It is almost like a whole different underwater world!

Scuba Cancun

Cancun is another hotspot on the Yucatan for scuba divers. Boaters and fishers join the scuba divers on the coast as they enjoy the activities and the warm gulf waters. Cancun is also big for tourists because it is host to numerous hotels and luxury stays. Divers in Cancun can choose from one of two main locations- Playa Del Carman and Chinchorro Banks. The Banks offer the second largest reef in the world (Australiaā€™s Great Barriers Reef is the first) and both locations offer scuba divers beginning lessons and advanced routes.

  • Get gear that fits! One of the most important things a scuba diver can do is get gear that fits. The scuba outfit that you choose should be tight-fitting yet forms fitting. Too loose of a scuba outfit will soon become waterlogged and heavy, too tight o f an outfit will be uncomfortable and even painful. Make sure that your scuba fins fit well too- you donā€™t want to lose them if they are too loose!
  • Taking photos! If you plan on taking underwater photos of the things you see off the Mexico coast then you canā€“ but make sure you are a decent scuba diver first! Many beginners think that they can take pictures easily but it takes an experienced diver to be able to handle both without becoming frustrated.
  • Monitor your air supply! If you want to be as prepared as possible you should be sure to monitor your air supply.Ā  The air you have in your tank will determine how far you can stay underwater so if you constantly check how much air you have on a regular basis you will be fine.

Enjoying your scuba diving vacation is all about preparation and location- have fun!
